"A Higher Standard of Care"

Volunteers are at the heart of Valir Hospice Care. Specially trained and educated in the hospice philosophy, Valir Hospice volunteers contribute significantly to the quality of our patient care. Some of the functions they assist with include:
  • Companionship
  • Art or music
  • Clerical and office support
  • Grief and bereavement support
  • Community education
  • Memorial services
  • Nurse and chaplain support
  • Special events

Valir offers organized training to its patient-care volunteers, which covers the following subjects:

  • Understanding hospice
  • Confidentiality
  • Working with families
  • Listening skills
  • Signs and symptoms of approaching dealth
  • Loss
  • Grief and bereavement support

Because hospice volunteers spend time in patient and family homes, Valir Hospice Care requires all potential volunteers to submit an application and pass an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation background check, drug test, and an interview to ensure the applicant's suitability for this type of work.

“I wanted to let you know that I had a great experience the past few weeks. Thank you for everything you guys have done for me. Each and every one of the staff has touched my life in some way. This was an experience that I will never forget as a nursing student. The care that you all give to these special patients is incredible. This is the best team that I have ever seen. It is completely amazing, the wonderful spirit you all have. Thank you again for making such a difference in these peoples lives and in mine.”
